A teen boy who had been enrolled at the Womlers High School, reportedly drowned over the weekend. David Minott is the grandson reggae legend Sugar Minott.
Although not much information has been released about the incident, it is believed that the teen, a fourth grade student, drowned on Sunday while going on a beach trip to Sommerset Falls in Hope Bay.
Minott was swimming with a group when the incident happened around 2:00 p.m. His body was found below the water’s surface by lifeguards shortly after he was seen sitting on a rock.
His school and his classmates are mourning the loss of the young Minott. He was the Public Relations Officer for Inter-Schools’ Christian Fellowship and represented the school’s ‘Passion and Purity’ groups.
The Passion and Purity group shared this video with us. It features an articulate Minott talking about his Christian beliefs and how they are needed in the dark world. He also shares his joy living the word.
David shared that he loves dancing and is a product of a rich heritage. His grandfather was one of the most gifted artists Jamaica has ever produced.
After suffering from a heart-related illness at the age of 54, the elder Minott died in Kingston in 2010. Maxine Stowe, his 14 children, his mother and seven siblings were left behind.
According to his family, the young Minott was also an accomplished budding musician who sang and wrote songs.
He sings, draws and raps well. Sharon Miller spoke with the Observer to share that he drew a picture about his grandfather for his SBA in Art. He got 97 points for that picture. He was involved in every aspect of Wolmer’s. He was also one of the most brilliant minds at Wolmer’s. Two weeks ago, I received the report. God sent it two weeks ago. Literature is 96 and Maths 100
