Popcaan was held in the United Kingdom for the second time this year. He blames his country Jamaica.

Popcaan appealed to Jamaica’s Prime Minster Andrew Holness on Tuesday, July 5, as he revealed that the UK’s Home Office had reportedly taken him into custody for the second time since the beginning of the year.

The appeal was shared by the dancehall singer on his Instagram Story. He also showed a piece of paper that he was given to him for detention. Popcaan was still carrying his phone and was not taken into custody in the video.

“Yes I’m being detained,” he said. “As you all know, I’m in Britain,” as he shared a paper from the Home Office. The document confirmed that he was being held in detention because of “information sent by my country that should be stopped everytime I’m here,” the “Relevant” artist stated.

“I wonder why, Monsieur Prime Minister, I would like your attention on this once more,” said the dejected artist.

The St. Thomas native shared earlier this year that he was stopped in transit from Africa by Immigration officials while he was traveling to the UK.

Popcaan claims that authorities discovered that information had been lodged against him by the Jamaican government. This claimed that he was a “gangleader,” which led to him being taken into custody .

The Jamaica Foreign Affairs Minister however responded in kind to calls for an investigation into the reason Popcaan was detained twice while in the United Kingdom.

Shelly Curran, a well-known artist manager who is also a media personality, used Twitter Tuesday afternoon to ask the Foreign Affairs Minister for assistance.

“Hon Min @kaminajsmith, there is a situation in UK involving @popcaanMusic in which he is detained by the JA govt ….we have to know why”

On Wednesday morning, the Minister denied that the government had requested that Popcaan be detained.

She stated that although @popcaanmusic has not been requested to be detained by the govt, there are many reasons why a traveller might be detained.

She added that she had requested an inquiry from the UK Consulate on the matter.
