Marion Hall, formerly Lady Saw has stated that she will release a song together with Shenseea. This is the same person she had criticized for the music she was putting out the day before.
The former Queen of Dancehall lashed at Spice, Jada Kingdom and Ishawna the day before, warning them that slack-music would send them to hell.
Now a gospel singer, she returned to address critics and stated that new music is on the way with Shenseea.
“Guess, you’re going to be shocked. Why is Shenseea singing a song? Because I love her… She’s my best friend”
“Shenseea! I truly love you. I don’t even know why. You are so innocent and pure, and that is why I love you”
Although it is clear that Hall spoke with Shenseea at some point, Shenseea has not yet confirmed the conversation.
Marion Hall gave up the title Lady Saw in 2015, when she was baptized and declared that she would no longer be participating in dancehall music. Her iconic career as Queen of Dancehall spanned two-decades. This led to the rise of female dancehall deejays. Lady Saw’s struggle to make a living and earn a place in society led to many social norms being pushed, especially when it comes to gender roles and sex. It is possible that the difficulties she experienced as a female artist helped to foster the rewards that younger artists such as Spice and Shenseea now enjoy.
Fans still called Hall out for her comments on Thursday. She seemed resentful about the success of Spice and Shenseea, Ishawna and Jada Kingdom. She also condemned their music.
She said that she was trying to save women on the road to hell.
Marion Hall said, “I want you all to look at what’s been going on. It was my idea and I can’t stop until I talk to you. It’s like you’re racing to the end and it’s almost like a race against time. It’s almost like you’re racing against each other to reach hell.
Shenseea was specifically addressed by her, telling her she was beautiful and didn’t need to make the same level of music to be successful.
Shenseea’s song “Lick” which encourages women to have oral sex has received mixed reviews. This is a taboo topic in dancehall for men.
Lady saw herself singing about the subject in “Sycamore Tree,” which was released 11 years ago.
