Bounty Killer, Masicka and Masicka each called out molly-users in the dancehall space.
Bounty killer, the Poor People’s Governor, condemned the use of Molly, a new drug which is increasingly popular in dancehall music as many artists, such as Skeng, sing glowing praises for it.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), has identified Molly as MDMA, but it is more commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly. Because of the way that men used to sneak it into women’s drinks in clubs, this drug is sometimes called a “date rape drug”.
The DEA states that Molly, a lab-made drug that can give users psychedelic effects, lasts between 3 and 6 hours. Recent reports, including accounts from Lincoln 3 Dot, a fellow dancehall musician, suggest that Molly has become an epidemic and is well-accepted by the younger generation in Jamaica. This statement has not been confirmed by Chris Tufton (Minister of Health) or police.
However, dancehall music is slowly gaining popularity with lyrics about molly among younger artists such as Skeng and Skeng’s “Pop Molly”, Skeng’s “Trending” and Skeng’s “Protocol.”
Bounty Killer, a dancehall elder, is rebuking the promotion of molly within dancehall. He called out those who use drugs.
The “Five Star General” shared his views while commenting on a Jamaica Star article that warned about the dangers of using the drug by a Molly dealer.
He captioned the screenshot with the words “Words of advice for the young or the old,”
Bounty Killer was backed by Masicka, a fellow dancehall artiste who called Molly users “crackheads”.
“Anybody can molly a crackhead naturally.”
Bounty Killer agreed with Masicka and responded, “Str8 bro sum a dolly bout molly”.
Bounty, Masicka and other artists have also spoken out against the use of the drug. Popcaan, OVO artist, addressed his camp members months ago and advised them to put aside empty trends such as using drugs.
“G Wagon de ya and Lamborghini de ya, stop pree Mark X,” Popcaan said earlier this year. “No make no idiot artiste trick uno bout buy Mark X. Sk Dem Madda! Sk Dem Madda!” Sk Dem Madda!”
